Meet Ethan
Ethan is a Peer Support Worker at EaseUp, offering community mental health and addiction support for youth aged 12-24. With a background in mental health respite care, he's been part of the EaseUp team for the last 5 months, bringing a wealth of lived experience and a passion for helping rangatahi navigate their mental health journeys.
Born in Christchurch and raised in Auckland, Ethan’s whakapapa comes from a mix of cultures – his mum is Canadian, and his dad is Italian (Aussie-born).
Ethan Shares Inspiring Te Reo Māori Journey
Ethan recently opened up about his journey learning Te Reo Māori in an empowering presentation for Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori. From high school classes to where he is now, Ethan shared key moments, like the support of his teacher, Matua Lobb, and leading a haka in front of 250 students – a massive confidence boost. He even wrapped up with tips to help others learn Te Reo.
Ethan admitted feeling nervous before the presentation, especially sharing so much of his story. But with solid support from Haami (the Central EaseUp Service Manager), and other kaimahi, he pushed through and finished proud and accomplished.
‘It was quite an honour to be asked to present and it helped me to feel more confident in my Te Reo abilities and feel recognised and valued as a person for my work.’ - Ethan
Ka Pai Ethan! 🫶
