🌟 About Haami
Kia Ora, I’m Haami (she/her) and I am the Service Manager here at EaseUp. I am passionate about Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how we incorporate that into our daily mahi and in interactions with our rangatahi. I like to think that by me looking through a Te Ao Māori lens I am able to change some views that people hold through being kind in my teachings. I am passionate about people standing on their mana because we all have mana. I like to treat people the same whether they wear Nike shoes or The warehouse shoes. In my mahi, I am privileged to have an incredible team who are strong , who are creative and who genuinely care about the rangatahi that comes through our doors. I love how we discuss stuff as a team and how we don’t walk past things that aren’t right. My team are why I come to work each day because I know I can make their loads lighter so they can make the loads that young people carry lighter. In all their endeavours
🌟 Who is a strong role model you look up to and why?
I look up to my dad because growing up, my parents weren’t together BUT my dad would travel on a Friday after work to get me every second weekend. My dad would buy me pretty stationery (I love stationery shopping) and great reading books, one of which I still have today from my 5th birthday. Im blessed that my dad is still with me today at 85. He is very staunch about supporting his grand children and great grand children in all their endeavours. My dad has always worked hard for us, he taught us to grow vege gardens, which he still does today. He taught us about working hard and being honest. My dad is the first person I go to when im sad because his hugs mean everything. The biggest quality my dad has instilled in me ,is that’s its ok to be vulnerable and to show vulnerability. That inspires me every day.
🎬 What’s your favourite movie or TV show and why?
My favourite all time movie is The Green Mile because it showed me that if we take off the judgement hat and treat people how we like to be treated, good changes come. My favourite is TV programme is Shortland Street (most of the time) I love it because about 10 years ago I was lucky to spend a week on set. How? My first is a first director on there and in was a birthday gift, pretty cool aye.
🌍 If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I am travelling to Hawaii at the end of the month. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a child and saw an Elvis movie and the pineapple plantations. I know I know but also, Māori helped Hawaii set up their versions of Kohanga Reo and very close person to me, my old intermediate teacher was a part of that.
